is a non-traditional, non medical organisation aiming to support people to address the consequences of mental health problems, in particular, lack of confidence, low self-esteem and becoming isolated. Service users become members and are supported to be involved in the day to day running of every aspect of our operation. This means that everything has a meaning and promotes belonging and ownership. Members contribute regardless of ability or mental health needs. There are no staff or member only areas, jobs or meetings. There are no therapy or activity groups. Leatherhead Clubhouse is more than simply a drop-in, it’s a community. Our approach is based on an international model, operating to a set of 36 standards developed over the past 40 years. The first one, for instance, reads: |
