Both following workshops will be delivered at 23, The Crescent, Leatherhead KT22 8DY.

This short workshop, delivered by Angie from the WEA, will introduce you to mindfulness techniques to help relieve anxiety and stress.
25 February, 12.30pm – 3.30pm – Wellbeing Workshop
John, our Area coordinator for Mole Valley, will be delivering this 3-hour workshop which will give you an insight into various simple ways in which we can all look after our mental health, as well as others around us.
With our Young People Peer Support Group (18-25 yo), the onus will be on the participants to shape and direct the running of the group and create a positive, safe and supportive environment where young adults can engage in various group activities and discussions that support their mental and emotional wellbeing.
The next groups will be held on Thursday 30 January and 27 February, 6.30pm – 8.30pm at our Leatherhead office. It is run in partnership with YMCA East Surrey.
Our brilliant yoga instructor Kerry is back again in 2020, starting off with a 12-week course from 10 January. If you haven’t signed up already, don’t worry, it’s not too late to attend! However, spaces are limited so do get in touch ASAP!
For just £3 per session, yoga will help you to discover how to achieve greater confidence, a more balanced life and improved emotional as well as physical wellbeing and resilience. The session is delivered at Our Lady and St. Peters Church in Leatherhead on a Friday, 1.15pm – 2.15pm.
Our Walking Photography Group that produced our 2020 wonderful calendar is back up and running since 10 January! We meet at our Leatherhead Office every other Friday at 10am and end the session with teas and coffees at The Crescent.
The next session will be on Friday 24 January. If you’re interested in attending, just drop by and help us create next year’s 2021 MFT Calendar!
Our popular Art group is back starting up after the festive break on 21 January at 10am at our Leatherhead Office. With various topics covered by our talented tutor Beccy, there will be something for everyone to get enjoyment, pleasure and a sense of achievement out of the things that are created.
Ranging from portraits, pencil drawing, painting, collage, canvas designs and even penguin making (see photo!) to name a few things, the group will be creating a wide variety of art throughout the year. The session is a drop-in, so no need to book but you still need to be registered with us to attend!
Our Monthly Book Club will next meet on Monday 27 January from 6.30pm until 7.30pm at The Crescent in Leatherhead. The club has decided to read next “First Man In”, by Ant Middleton (instead of “The Night Visitor” by Lucy Atkins, as was announced in last month’s newsletter).
No-one is born a leader. But through sheer determination and by confronting life’s challenges, Ant Middleton has come to know the meaning of true leadership. In First Man In, he shares the core lessons he’s learned over the course of his fascinating, exhilarating life.
To survive the gruelling selection process to become a member of the elite you need toughness, aggression, meticulous attention to detail and unrelenting self-discipline, all traits that make for the best leaders. After 13 years’ service in the military, with four years as a Special Boat Service (SBS) sniper, Ant Middleton is the epitome of what it takes to excel. As a point man in the SBS, Ant was always the first man through the door, the first man into the dark, and the first man in harm’s way.
In this fascinating, exhilarating and revealing book, Ant speaks about the highs and gut-wrenching lows of his life – from the thrill of passing Special Forces Selection to dealing with the early death of his father and ending up in prison on leaving the military – and draws valuable lessons that we can all use in our daily lives.
It’s not too late to join last month’s book club either – “The Heart’s Invisible Furies” by John Haddon. If you would like a copy of this to read then just let John O’Malley know – but hurry, only a few copies left!
Our Football team continues to train throughout the year and still has league matches every month! The main purpose of the team is not only to increase physical and mental health, but to also boost social interaction and confidence!
Our weekly training session is on a Monday between 3.30pm and 4.30pm at the Mole Barn in Leatherhead. We are always looking to increase our numbers and welcome new additions to training, if you are interested! Our mixed gender sessions are for all abilities.
Our group of Walking Footballers would very much disagree! Our mixed gender Walking Football sessions are designed for (but not limited to) players who are no longer able to play mainstream football, with specific rules to making it more inclusive, and minimal contact making it a safer environment to play!
Sessions run weekly on a Tuesday morning, 10am – 11am at Meadowbank Stadium in Dorking. So, come give it a try! You won’t regret it. On the first Tuesday of every month there is a social gathering of coffee and tea in a café after the session, for a good old chinwag and an occasional slice of cake!

The first month of the year,
A perfect time to start all over again,
Changing energies and deserting old moods,
New beginnings, new attitudes.”
