Why working together to support those in need is good for all.

Corporate and membership group support plays a vital role in helping charities of all sizes thrive. Quite simply, it gives charities the stability and resources they need to keep showing up for the people who rely on them – whether that’s through funding, volunteering, sharing expertise or helping raise awareness.

But it’s not a one-way street. For businesses and groups, getting involved brings real benefits too. It’s a meaningful way to give back to the local community, build team spirit and connect with a cause that resonates. People often feel more engaged and motivated when they can see the difference they’re making, while organisations strengthen local relationships and develop a shared sense of purpose.

At MFT, we’ve been fortunate to receive support from a range of local businesses and membership groups over the years (the photo shows the fundraising grand total raised by the Leatherhead Rotary for MFT in 2024/25). Their contributions have not only provided valuable funding, but have also helped us share our mission and reach more people who may need our support. Some of the people we’ve connected with through these partnerships have gone on to become volunteers at MFT too.

One example is the generous donation from The Caterham Round Table. As a membership group, they run a popular weekly football session for their members and understand first-hand the benefits it brings for both mental and physical wellbeing. They recognised the same value in our own “Football for Wellbeing” sessions and chose to support this work directly.

Thanks to their support, along with the generosity of other organisations, we’ve been able to continue offering weekly football sessions in Leatherhead and Hersham – something we receive no statutory funding for, but would never want to lose. We know just how much it means to those who take part. As one attendee shared: “I speak on behalf of every team member when I say that most of the team members could describe their experience in exactly the same way as I have. Profoundly. Life. Improving.”

When charities and local groups work together, everyone benefits. Communities become more connected, support reaches those who need it most and there’s a shared sense of making a genuine difference.
