In the past three years, the service supported hundreds of individuals and families across Surrey. The FWSS was set up to help people manage money worries alongside their mental wellbeing. It combined advice on benefits, debt and finances — delivered by Citizens Advice Epsom & Ewell and Citizens Advice Surrey Heath — with specialist emotional wellbeing support provided by Mary Frances Trust (covering Epsom & Ewell) and our partners Catalyst Support (covering Surrey Heath). This joined-up approach gave people practical help to feel more in control of their lives.
This service was developed in response to an identified local need and is a good example of partnership working to address both financial and mental wellbeing. We are grateful to our staff delivering the service, partner organisations and to The National Lottery Community Fund, whose support made the service possible.
While the FWSS has now ended, mental health and wellbeing support continues to be available through our other services, including Community Connections and Wellbeing Advice and Information. Both services are available to Surrey residents (aged 16+) and can be accessed via self-referral. For further support on financial advice, your local Citizens Advice branch can help with benefits, debt and money concerns.
Community Connections provides free, long-term support for adults in Surrey who are struggling with their mental health or emotional wellbeing. Support can include one-to-one sessions, personalised wellbeing plans, peer support groups, and a wide range of activities and workshops delivered both online and in the community. The aim is to help people build connections, develop skills for managing their wellbeing and access practical information and support where needed.
Wellbeing Advice and Information offers free and confidential one-to-one support and information on practical issues that can affect someone’s emotional health, such as benefits claims, housing, carers’ issues, finance-related concerns and general advocacy. Appointments are provided by phone, video call or email, with support to help people find the information they need, liaise with other organisations where required, and take steps forward with confidence.
