Movember is an annual charity event taking place each year in November to raise money for and awareness of men’s health issues, in particular: prostate cancer, testicular cancer and suicide / mental health crisis.
Men traditionally grow moustaches during the month of November to show their support for the campaign. The name “Movember” is a combination of “mo” (short for moustache), and “November”. But Movember is above all about sharing information and encouraging men to get themselves checked, talk to professionals and seek support before it is too late.
As a charity, we feel a sense of responsibility towards our male clients and want to promote awareness of those health conditions by sharing information about them.
For this reason, we will be running Men’s Health Info Sessions alongside some of our men’s groups on those dates:
The info session will consist of a fun quiz to share stats and important information in a way that isn’t awkward but helps to break taboo and start conversations.
We will also share flyers about symptoms to look out for, how to get tested and where to get mental health crisis support.
We’ll end the sessions with tea/coffee and cupcakes with moustache toppers! Please come along to our sessions – if you haven’t tried our men’s groups yet, perhaps now is the right time?
We will also share some advice on social media so we can reach as many men as possible.
To attend any of our men’s groups, register with MFT first and then book your place by contacting our office on 01372 375 400 or SMS 07929 024 722 or at info@maryfrancestrust.org.uk.
