To coincide with Pride Month and celebrate LGBTQ+ equality across the UK and beyond, we’d like to share some LGTBQ news!
Our CEO Patrick Wolter was recently a guest on “Out with Kathy Caton” a new LGBTQ+ weekly show on BBC Radio Surrey and Sussex broadcast on Wednesdays 9pm-10pm, where he talked about our LGBTQ+ peer support group, our Time to Change Surrey partnership and the importance of our volunteers. If you missed the show, you can catch up on BBC Sounds and fast-forward to 20:30min to get straight to the interview.
If you’re 18+, part of the LGBTQ+ community and would love some support with your mental health and/or emotional wellbeing as well as meet peers to share experiences and advice with, why not try our LGBTQ+ Peer Support Group? Launched two years ago in partnership with Pride in Surrey, the group meets on the third Thursday of every month, 7.30pm-8.30pm (currently on Zoom but hopefully in person when restrictions allow again!). It is facilitated by our CEO Patrick, who is a trained psychologist, as well as Vix and Emily, both volunteers from Pride in Surrey. For more information, please download our LGBTQ+ Peer Support Group poster.
We’d love to spread awareness of mental health issues and tackle stigma and/or hear about mental wellbeing stories amongst the LGBTQ+ community in our mission to educate people and contribute to making a more compassionate society. We’re looking for people to blog for us either on a one-off basis or more regularly. This can be a written blog or a video blog (vlog). If you’re interested, please contact Connie, our Communications Lead, at connie@maryfrancestrust.org.uk.
We’re planning to dedicate our August radio show, The Wellbeing Hour on Surrey Hills Community Radio, to talk about mental health in the LGBTQ+ community and we’re looking for people to interview and share their wellbeing journeys. So if you’d like to share your story, your wellbeing tips as a member of the LGBTQ+ community or some important wellbeing messages, please get in touch with Connie, our Communications Lead, at connie@maryfrancestrust.org.uk. The interview will be pre-recorded some time in June or July before being aired on Monday 2 August at 9pm.
Happy Pride Month!
