The following song written by MFT supporter GG is about the struggles that come with having a mental health condition that isn’t visible to anyone but yourself, trying to find a way forward and remembering that there will be happier times ahead. It is called: “I will be your witness”.
Verse 1
Backing yourself into a corner
Because of anxiety and trauma
Searching for a magical repair
To wake you from your nightmare
Scaling the monster’s pit
It’s time to escape not submit
Chorus
When your therapist says it’s like a broken bone
Just without the sticks and stones
It means you have no scars to show
For all the worry and the woes
Invisibility is a possibility
But it makes it no less of a reality
You have the illness
I will be your witness
Verse 2
Waiting for that magic wand
Actuality may have dawned
Realising it’s not going to be straightforward
Parts of life you wish you could fast-forward
Reaching out for a friend’s hand
To enable you to strongly stand
Chorus
When your therapist says it’s like a broken bone
Just without the sticks and stones
It means you have no scars to show
For all the worry and the woes
Invisibility is a possibility
But it makes it no less of a reality
You have the illness
I will be your witness
Bridge
When the grass is greyer on the other side (You have the illness)
All you want is to run and hide (I will be your witness)
At night the silence is loud and booming (You have the illness)
All the sleeplessness can be dooming (I will be your witness)
Wait it out for a turn in the tide (You have the illness)
The crashing around you will subside. (I will be your witness)
Chorus
When your therapist says it’s like a broken bone
Just without the sticks and stones
It means you have no scars to show
For all the worry and the woes
Invisibility is a possibility
But it makes it no less of a reality
You have the illness
I will be your witness
Bridge 2x
When the grass is greyer on the other side (You have the illness)
All you want is to run and hide (I will be your witness)
At night the silence is loud and booming (You have the illness)
All the sleeplessness can be dooming (I will be your witness)
Wait it out for a turn in the tide (You have the illness)
The crashing around you will subside (I will be your witness)
Outro
The grass will be green again
I will find you in a calm glen
Night’s volume will be tuned
Sleep cycles will resume
The storm will pass you by
The grass will be green again
I will find you in a calm glen
Night’s volume will be tuned
Sleep cycles will resume
The storm will pass you by.
