We usually share a list of local community and church lunches you can join on Christmas Day if you’re alone but wouldn’t mind some company or festive cheer. This year, due to COVID-19 restrictions, sadly most of those lunches have had to be cancelled or haven’t yet been confirmed as we publish this. However, you’ll find below the next best thing – Christmas dinners and hampers which can be delivered to your door as well as Virtual Dinners!
The Meeting Room usually runs its annual Christmas Dinner with those it supports at Fetcham Village Hall, but due to the current coronavirus pandemic they were unable to safely hold the event indoors this year.
Instead volunteers from the charity will deliver 40-50 individual dinners on Christmas Day and spend time with people at their homes while they’re unable to meet together as usual. To sign up to receive a Christmas dinner, you can contact them at themeetingroom123@gmail.com or call 07413 978 422.
‘Festive Feast on Wheels’ is a Community Christmas Day lunch for anyone living in the Reigate & Banstead area who is spending Christmas Day alone or who cannot afford a Christmas Day lunch.
If you would like a two-course lunch with all the trimmings and a small gift delivered to your door on Christmas Day by a friendly volunteer, please complete the registration form below and return to the address provided on the form by 11 December 2020. For details of how to register as a guest, please contact festivefeast@varb.org.uk or call on 07899 808825.
The meals are being prepared by a network of community partners including: Voluntary Action Reigate & Banstead, St Mary’s Church-Reigate, Merstham Mix Café, Age Concern-Banstead, Banstead 5 Churches, Renewed Hope and Churches for Horley. Funding and food for the “Festive Feast on Wheels” has come from Gatwick Airport Community Trust, Reigate Rotary Club and Greener Greens.
Want to help?
If you’d like to support this initiative, you can help by buying one of the gifts, such as sweet treats, toiletries, mugs, gloves, scarves, socks and small gift sets. Some local shops will store any gifts you buy from them (look out for Feast on Wheels banners) or you can drop off your gifts in the Belfry shopping centre in Redhill.
Christmas Lunch on Jesus (CLOJ) helps local churches to make 500 Christmas hampers for members of the community who are in desperate need at Christmas time. The hampers are packed with all Christmas goodies including a turkey, stuffing, carrots, brussel sprouts, potatoes, gravy, Christmas pudding, chocolates and non-alcoholic wine and will be delivered on 22 December 2020. Referrals for hampers in South West London are handled by Merton Council, Kingston Foodbank and other local agencies.
Want to help?
You can volunteer to pack hampers on 21 December or deliver hampers on 22 December. Find out more on the CLOJ website.
